Be nice to bikes

Vive la bicyclette.  |  July 2015.

The sun is out and I've just ordered a new bicycle.

I'm excited, but it's been a while, so I'm a bit worried about riding in traffic. I know some people on bikes act like idiots, running red lights and such, but some of us fair weather cyclists are just a bit, well, wobbly. So, if you're out in the car, be nice and give me and everyone else on a bike plenty of room.

Oh, and I suppose convention dictates, that I should say "Hi and welcome to my shop" (even though it’s not a shop, its a website… but you know what I mean).

Hi and welcome to my shop. Look around. Stay a while.

Michelle

Probably, the best little photo shop in the world.

A bold claim, perhaps, but difficult to disprove and you can't really begrudge us a bit of wanton self promotion. After all, we do it with style and more than a hint of genteel irony.

We've been in the town and serving Berkhamsted since 1987, are proudly independent and most people have something nice to say about us.

If you want to know more, waggle over the pictures or better yet, ask around. We're confident you'll like what you hear.

A Short History:

Late one Thursday afternoon, 13.84 Billion years ago, the universe was formed.

Some time later, Jim Gregory, (Michelle's Dad) thought it would be a good idea for his newsagents, Jennifers News, to do photos. He was right (but not great at apostrophes). Sally (Michelle's Mum) agreed and, so, it was done.

By 1987, the photo business, had taken on a life of its own.

Many, many years of successful trading later, Michelle realises that there is no way that you can fit 25 years of work into a few short lines on website.

The rest, as they say, is tomorrow's chip paper history.

Definitely not, a Chain Store :

One of the things that makes Berkhamsted such a nice place to live, work and shop is the number of independent shops in the town. And, we're one of them.

Sure, Berkhamsted has lots of nice places to hang out and grab a coffee, but the thing that really makes it worth the trip, are the shops you just can't find anywhere else... and discovering the joys that lie within them.

So, whilst maybe we can't dazzle you with our Art Deco architecture, exotic jewellery or racks of one of a kind designer clothes, Berkhamsted Imaging does have its fair share of pretty things and funky stuff.

Of course,  if you'd rather pay a fortune to park in a grubby multi-storey, walk through litter or be served by a clueless wage slave, who really ain't bo-vv-ered and you just want to buy something everyone else has, there are other places you could go... But we wouldn't recommend it.

- That was a partly political broadcast on behalf of the Shop Local campaign.

Quotes:

SUPERB! AMAZING! and just a little bit FABULOUS!

A glorious shop, that will inspire and delight you.

If you only visit one shop this year, make sure it's this one.

Never before has a small local photo shop made such a profound and poigniant contribution to the truth function of elementary propositions.

These are just some of the quotes, we've made up to go our web site.

If you're in town or coming over for a visit, drop in, say Hi...

It'd be great to see you.

Meanwhile, if you're looking for a map, our contact details or just want to send us a quick message, you're in the right place.

Map

As you can see from the Map, we're right in the heart of Berkhamsted.

We'll leave the directions to Google (they're much better at it than us) but basically (if you're coming in from Northchurch) we're just before the traffic lights on the left hand side, opposite Natwest.

Parking

Finding a parking space in Berkhamsted can be something of an art. Fortunately, we're near all the main parking spots. Your best bets are:

  • The large Pay and Display, next to Waitrose.
  • The Canal Fields Car Park, which is free (but hard to find).

There is limited parking and disabled/loading access on the high street itself... Oh, and if you're new in town, watch out for the traffic wardens.

Whether you're using a train, a bus, shank's pony or even a canal boat, getting here is easy.

  • By Train

Berkhamsted Train Station is on the main line from Milton Keynes to London Euston, the trains run regularly and its only a 5 minute walk away.

Live departure/arrival times for trains to and from Berkhamsted

To get to the shop from the Station, just follow the signs/herd to the town centre, via Lower Kings Road, and turn right at the traffic lights.

  • By Bus

Our nearest bus stop is right outside the shop on the opposite side of the road.

    Bus timetable

It, genuinely, couldn't be any closer... (unless it was on same side of the road or by a quirk of civic planning someone had decided that the best place to put a bus stop was actually in our shop).

  • By Foot

If know your way around Berkhamsted, but aren't quite sure whereabouts in town we are, here's quite a sweet view which shows you other places in the town, you'll recognise.

Plus, as a bonus, you can look at pretty pictures of High Street covered in snow.
